In some cases, a veterinarian may recommend the hospitalization of your dog or cat. This may be required after a surgery or an accident, or simply to ensure the monitoring of a disease that is difficult to control at home. Our clinic is fully equipped to keep your pet comfortable and safe while he or she is hospitalized.
When is the hospitalization of your dog or cat necessary?
The veterinarian will recommend the hospitalization of the dog or cat when this is necessary. They have already performed a diagnosis to determine the need for this. A variety of tests may be required to arrive at a diagnosis. The animal’s hospitalization also requires the owner’s written and signed consent.
How long is the hospitalization?
Your pet’s hospital stay may last from a few hours to several days, depending on their health status or the complexity of the operation.
Before the hospitalization
If your pet needs to undergo surgery before the hospitalization, your veterinarian might ask them to fast beginning at 8 p.m. the day before the operation. The veterinarian will explain the procedure and ask you to sign a consent form.
In what conditions does the hospitalization of dogs and cats take place?
The hospitalized animal is placed in a cage proportional to its size. The hospitalization of cats and dogs takes place in separate locations. This helps prevent the cats from being disturbed by the yapping of dogs. Each animal has their own bowl and receives food suitable for its disease or health status. Follow-up is done on-site by the medical team.
Animals infected with a contagious disease are placed in an isolated location so that they can recover optimally without contaminating the other animals. We also have an incubator for animals in intensive care.
Is it possible to visit the animal?
Our veterinary clinic has a visiting area. This helps boost your pet’s morale and facilitate their recovery. However, there are restrictions on the number of visitors and the hours of visits.
The follow-up after the hospitalization of your dog or cat
After the hospitalization, the veterinarian will provide all the recommendations for the animal’s care. Following the hospitalization, the pet owner must closely monitor its pet's health status for 2 to 3 days. You must also maintain a calm environment for your pet.
